To be an actor, one does not need a degree, though many choose to study various elements of the profession to gain further training and experience before venturing into such a competitive industry. Acting programs range from one-time classes to master's degrees.
The Juilliard School, for example, has a bachelor of fine arts program in actor training. Los Angeles' American Academy of Dramatic Arts offers an associate of arts in acting and a certificate of advanced studies in acting. At the University of Michigan, students can choose from degree programs such as a bachelor of fine arts in performance and bachelor of theatre arts, or a minor in African-American theatre.
